See All ReviewsThere will be stories told, And they must be told, to the next generation. There was a place once that you can go and stack food is high as you could that would let you pay one price to build your own Babel of food. It was glorious. The children may scoff, they may call you things like Boomer even though it's not your generation to try to make you feel small or such a comment. But we know the truth. We know that it existed. We know that the price was less than $13 for a amount of food no man could finish in one meal and was able to take home. Tales will be told of unlimited spices. Spices that men of old had to conquer villages for and entire continents fought over. But here, in this place, they were endless. Possibilities stretching beyond understanding. Sauces that made one feel like they were a culinary liquid sommelier. Where young man could learn cooking skills, talk to someone he never knew while waiting for chefs with magic wands to cook their food. Truly they wouldn't believe in the magic wands, they would say what about a spatula? Knives?? But you would have to tell them no, just two big metal flat rods. And they won't believe you.. 350°? No, this round disc of fire was set at 700°. How a MAN would have his food cooked. Where he could go with his friends and learn the secret of the white sauce. The discipline on when to use the white sauce. You can learn the understanding of finances and tipping appropriately when the food is endless, but the service isn't. He could learn what sacrifice means because in 25 minutes after you eat you understood there was ramifications for your actions. Where learning how to pack a bowl was done in the righteous way. Not like the filth in the streets, but what you could do with the meats. Truly it was a place of legends. The legacy of the fire that was once deemed crazy will live on through us. Through every pan of leftovers I throw in a hot skillet, and very bowl of random meats and vegetables all for my brothers who give it all for us. You may have closed your doors, But you're signature is on all of our hearts, in the bowl that we made. If you're a real one, list your bowl 👇🏻 below. Thank you. I love this place! Every time a friend comes to town, this is where I take them, I come here for birthdays and special occasions. This has got to be one of my favorite places (if not my favorite) in Raleigh! The food is so good, you get to pick it yourself so no excuses if it’s not good, they grill it perfectly and their rice on the side is great! It’s a really reasonable price for a great meal, especially if you have some very hungry people.
This restaurant is obviously struggling and they should really just close down. The sign on the building no longer illuminates and is lit only by solar flood lights. The property in general is starting to appear pretty run down. One of the worst things is that the dining room HVAC has failed. They have attempted to compensate by installing two or three mini split units and they had electric heaters sitting around on the floor but it was still cold. The food portions are very small using school lunchroom soup bowls as portions which were priced fairly expensively for that size. The choices of ingredients on the cold bar to put into the bowl was a little more sparse than I expected and was not particularly appetizing. The food that I got tasted okay but it was all brown by the time it was done cooking. No color at all. One member of our party refused to eat because of the appearance of the food.
